It happens in Y (again, you don’t see his dead body but there’s no reason to assume he isn’t dead…does the classic villain “my plans are foiled so I’ll just blow up my whole damn lair while I’m still inside it”). However, my understanding is that X version has its plot emphasis on him obtaining eternal life for himself and Team Flare members, so I guess he’s just like…alive under all the rubble or something, IDK.

Is it bad that I like Lysandre/Sycamore, even though if one assumes it in the games, it puts Sycamore in a REALLY bad light? Like, it’s fun to think of them as friends/former mentor and student/whatever, but if you do then sweet Arceus is Sycamore a terrible friend. Even if you pass it off as ditziness on Sycamore’s part, it’s still like…yooooo why didn’t you TELL ANYBODY WHAT YOUR CRAZY-ASS BOYFRIEND WAS UP TO.

It’s particularly jarring for me because I played Y version, where there is zero mention or even implication of the “immortality” angle from X version, so Lysandre straight up commits suicide (as the player you have no reason to think otherwise) and then Sycamore’s just like “lol man I probably should have talked to him or something…whatever man let’s throw you a parade!!!”
