In terms of Pokémon Black Version 2 and Pokémon White Version 2, it was actually near the end of the development of the first games when we started talking about what we wanted to do next. It was maybe only three or four months before the actual release of Pokémon Black Version and Pokémon White Version in Japan.

By that time our internal staff was able to play the game even though it hadn’t been released yet. They were able to go through the whole scenario and start getting feedback about how the story was good, and they enjoyed characters such as N and Ghetsis.

But our staff was very interested in what happened to these characters after the ending. From all this feedback, we got the idea that would could expand on the story using those characters, and that’s when the idea of a direct sequel came up. We figured it’d also be a good challenge for us because we had never done a direct sequel before.

Junichi Masuda, when asked how far ahead they thought of the story for BW2

(just wanna promote this page here because I’m pretty proud of it. I’ve not drawn Ghetsis before now o_o (or N or Team Plasma overall for that matter))

More ArtistDex stuff! Entry #007 is a pre-Galactic Jupiter getting ready for a night on the town after work, done by the wonderful Auds (more of whose work you can see HERE). Jupiter gets the least fan-love of the three main Galactics, I think, and it’s a shame.

Jupiter intrigues me because she seems a bit older than her companions, like in her late 20s/early 30s versus the early 20s of Saturn and Mars. I can imagine Saturn and Mars having joined Team Galactic early enough in their lives for them to not have had professional identities before then, but Jupiter looks old enough to where I can’t imagine her not having had some kind of prior career or identity…albeit one she obviously wasn’t satisfied with, since she signed on with Team Galactic. Who was she before, and what drew her to Cyrus and his organization? I wonder.

Who Shares An English Voice Actor?

I like looking up this kind of stuff anyway, so I made these: a sample of some villains in the anime and who they share their English voices with! It’s not an exhaustive list of either voice actors or their roles on Pokémon, just comparisons I thought were particularly funny or interesting.

I’d give the achievement award for Most Evil Voice Acting Overall to Marc Thompson, because of the seven major roles he’s had on Pokémon, five have been villains. Also, apparently he’s a minister in real life. The money I would pay to hear a sermon about the importance of the land mass in that amazing weird-ass nasally voice he gave Maxie…
