For one thing. Embarrassment would denote some kind of emotional reaction. Perhaps regret at an event passed that I wish I could have changed, rather than using it as a learning experience. If people choose to dwell on unfavourable events, then that is their problem, obviously.
Secondly, my parents were hardly the type to indulge in the kind of activities that many children would describe as embarrassing. I’m sure most children are embarrassed about public displays of affection, or silly nicknames, or being over-coddled. I can assure you my parents lacked in all such departments.
