In memory of Maddie Blaustein- 1960-2008

On December 11, 2008, voice actress and transgender activist Maddie Blaustein passed away in her sleep at the age of 48. Blaustein was best known among English-speaking Pokémon fans as the original 4kids dub voice of Meowth. Maddie, you really were the “top cat” and your fans miss you so much. Rest in peace.

Today marks four years since the death of Maddie Blaustein, the English-language voice actress for Meowth from episode 29 all the way to season eight; in honor of her, there will be Meowth aplenty all day long.

For those of you who (like me) never got to see the Pokémon Live! stage musical way back in the day, here’s a treat–the whole thing’s on YouTube! The show’s production manager has uploaded it in seven parts for your enjoyment, and though it’s a full-stage taping (no closeups), for me that’s better than nothing. From the vid description:

Pokemon Live! was a multi-million dollar musical stage show featuring the adventures of Ash, Brock, Misty, Pikachu, Giovanni, Team Rocket and the mechanical Pokemon, MechaMew2. It premiered on Broadway at Radio City Music Hall in September of 2000 and then toured the United States and Canada. I was the Production Stage Manager on the show. The video is a full stage shot with no close-ups, but the lighting is good and the quality of the video makes it easy to follow the action of the musical. The show is divided into 7 parts. The show was directed by Luis Perez of Broadway renown.

The new TV Anime Series Pocket Monsters Best Wishes Season 2 Episode N (ポケットモンスター ベストウイッシュ シーズン2 エピソードN) will begin on January 17th, 2013 and will feature the return of the Rocket Gang! To celebrate this, players of the Japanese version of Pocket Monsters Black 2 and White 2 will be able to download a Rocket Gang Nyarth. Nyarth has been in the anime series from the very start, more than 15 years, but this is the first time it is being offered as a present! Nyarth will be available for a limited time on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection from December 7th, 2012 until January 10th, 2013.
